Guided Learning

Tailored training and practical guidance on your own site for adopting Lean principles.

Many organisations consider the introduction of productivity techniques, especially Lean, to be a project that introduces a new culture, and for that reason, the much preferred option is to have customised, in-company training. We would certainly recommend this approach for a number of Lean techniques.

Our approach to helping you become Lean is practical, flexible and structured. We offer a series of in-company, customised Lean programmes that normally involves introducing up to eight people (assuming facilities allow) to the particular technique followed by the appropriate number of days of guided application.

After the course our training help continues with practical on-site guidance for up to five of the delegates as they apply the theory they’ve learned back in the workplace. Our Scott-Grant specialist will guide then prompt them to achieve the best results possible.

Guided application is a Scott-Grant speciality and so many of our customers are astounded at the significant improvements that are achieved on both an individual and business level with this tailored and dedicated approach to learning.

Our Guided Learning package includes an initial visit by the course leader for preparation and follow-up time to measure the effectiveness of the training. Ask us for details.

3 day courses

For each of these three day programmes, we make a further follow-up visit after an appropriate interval to ensure the maximum benefits are being achieved.

Value Stream Mapping
Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is entirely about identifying and removing waste - in other words, the things that the customer and you should not be paying for. The real power of this Lean technique is not just to enable the understanding of your current situation, but to provide the ability to develop the vision of how it should be – the future state. This programme is ideal for organisations in every possible industry sector who want to improve their business value stream.
Procedure Value Stream Mapping™
We have developed this unique and exclusive approach to recording, analysing and improving clerical and administrative procedures and processes. Using the powerful concepts of Value Stream Mapping, combined with an imaginative way of using Amplified Procedure Charts, this technique enables the ‘current state’ to be recorded, analysed and the existing ‘waste’ identified. Following a highly systematic approach, the ‘future state’ can be developed and recorded. This will provide a clear vision of the changes that need to be made and how to achieve the improvements to the ‘value stream’.
Organising the workplace: 5S
We believe a Lean culture needs and depends on the 5S approach. It’s a simple but dramatic technique to highlight and eliminate waste. This vital approach involves everyone within the organisation and enables them to see the improvements they can make to achieve a consistent and orderly work environment.
Continuous improvement
Creating a continuous improvement culture (Kaizen) is another key feature of a Lean organisation. It is everybody’s responsibility to constantly seek opportunities for improvement within their own and other areas of the organisation. This highly practical programme will introduce the simple tools and techniques that each employee will be able to apply. We help delegates become involved in the concepts that will soon become the norm in the working environment, adding to job satisfaction and motivation.

Quicker changeovers: SMED      3 to 5 days
At one time this highly effective, quick changeover methodology, often called SMED, was targeted only at manufacturing companies but our experience in every kind of industry demonstrates that the same methodology can be universally applied with considerable effect.

This very popular and highly participative programme shows you how to reduce downtime from changeovers in your business. We work with your people, mainly at operator level, with a suitable team leader. Our unique approach to this technique generates some spectacular savings and benefits for businesses with little or no capital investment.

The key features of the Scott-Grant approach:

  • It’s aimed entirely at LOW COST or even NO COST improvements, so it’s not about capital investment
  • It’s not about ‘time measuring’ changeover routines in detail
  • We deliver benefits within a month – often less
  • It’s developed from the classic SMED technique
  • We focus on keeping it simple

If you haven’t implemented any Lean techniques in your organisation and aren’t quite sure where or whether to start, you should consider spending a couple of days with us on the Lean Routemap. This will give you valuable insight into a range of selected Lean techniques.
